Efficient aeration for grit and grease chambers

In grit and grease chambers, controlled hydraulics and targeted aeration enable the separation of mineral and organic components. Heavy materials such as sand and grit settle to the bottom, while lighter substances like fats and oils are carried to the surface by the air-induced flow and removed. A consistent and stable air supply is essential to ensure reliable process conditions. Robust coarse-bubble diffusers made of stainless steel or EPDM deliver low-maintenance aeration with a clearly defined bubble structure, creating optimal flow patterns within the tank. This provides the basis for efficient and dependable separation of settleable and floatable materials.

Paired with high-performance AERZEN blowers, the required air volume is supplied efficiently and precisely in line with process demand. Even under varying inlet conditions, the blower technology ensures stable and accurate air delivery, making a key contribution to operational reliability.

Sludge treatment - turning wastewater into energy

Inside the digester, sewage sludge is biologically treated under anaerobic conditions, generating biogas as a valuable renewable energy carrier. This process substantially enhances the energy balance of wastewater treatment plants and can even enable largely self-sufficient operation. In the absence of oxygen, microorganisms break down organic substances and produce a gas mixture with a high methane content, which is well suited for efficient heat and power generation.

Combined heat and power systems utilize this biogas to simultaneously produce electricity and thermal energy, turning sludge from a residual material into a useful energy resource. To ensure dependable and efficient transport of the gas from the digester to the CHP unit, AERZEN biogas blowers are employed. Designed specifically for the conveying and compression of biogas and landfill gas, these machines offer high reliability, efficiency, and performance.

The GM series covers a broad range of sizes and has been purpose-built for applications in the biogas sector. In compliance with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC, DIN EN 1012‑3 for compressors and vacuum pumps, as well as DVGW regulations, these blowers are approved for operation in hazardous areas classified as Zones 1 and 2.
